Ahsoka S1 Review

Ahsoka takes place during the events of the The Mandalorian and after Return Of The Jedi. Ahsoka was a character that was created for the Clone Wars animated TV series and was later added to the canon events. The creation of Ahsoka was a blessing for the franchise especially for Anakin. As of this writing, I'm still watching the Clone War series and I absolutely love the teacher/student dynamic between the two.

Ahsoka follows former jedi apprentice Ahsoka Tano and her allies as they fight the remnants of the Galactic Empire during the time of the fledgling New Republic. It's rare that we get badass female characters that are physically on par with their male counterparts. For many years in the franchise their weren’t a lot of strong female protagonist/antagonist. Most of the female characters that we got were love interest and damsels in distress.

This series has three well written female protagonist. Rosario Dawson plays the lead role of Ahsoka and she is absolutely captivating to watch. As Ahsoka Rosario Dawson possess so much wisdom, strength, confidence and leadership. It doesn't feel like she does a lot of talking in the series but when she does speak her words way and ton.

Sabine Wren (played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo) is or at least was the Padawan of Ahsoka. She is a Mandalorian warrior who fought against the Galactic Empire. When the two had a following out Sabine put down her light Saber until Ahsoka returns to ask for her help. Sabine not only wants to find her best friend Ezra who has been missing but she's also very determined and driven that she's capable of becoming a jedi. What Sabine lacks in physical strength and confidence she more than makes up for in heart and perseverance.

Hera Syndulla (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is the general of the New Republic who is the pilot of the Ghost and just like Sabine she also fought the Empire in Rebels. She's intelligent, smart, caring and very headstrong. Hera is more of an, “ask for forgiveness later” type of person.

Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati work for Morgan Elsbeth and Grand Admiral Thrawn. Baylan Skoll is a former jedi who fought in the Clone Wars alongside Anakin. Shin is Baylan's apprentice and is trying to show her that she has much more potential than being, “just a jedi”. They are two formidable opponents who give our heroes a daring challenge. After how this season ended I certainly wonder if Shin is going to stay loyal to Baylan or if she is having seconds doubts about herself.

Two problems I had with the Obi-Wan series that this one does better: the pacing and the structure of the characters. In the Obi-Wan series everyone was just waiting for Vader/Anakin to show up that everything else didn't really seemed like it mattered. With the Ahsoka series not only do I think the villains are more menacing but there is no filler episode at all. I guess you can consider episode 5 a filler, however, it's one of the best episodes of the series that shows the viewers how the event of the Clone Wars and Anakin falling to the dark side had an mental affect on her and how Ahsoka learned to become a warrior because of it. From the pacing, the world building, action sequences, VFX, this show is a winner in my book and I can't wait for Season 2.
