My Mothers Wedding Review

On the Sunday of summer, audiences finally see the release of Kristin Scott Thomas’s latest film—after nearly two years of waiting since its TIFF 2023 premiere. The strike certainly didn’t help its case, but Scarlett Johansson’s turn as Katherine Frost gave the film a home. The question is—does it land smoothly?

Weddings are prime territory for family dysfunction, and here we witness three sisters—Katherine (Johansson), Victoria (Sienna Miller), and Georgina (Emily Beecham)—coming together for their mother’s third wedding. Loosely inspired by Thomas’s own life, the premise is rich with emotional potential. Over the course of a weekend, old wounds resurface, guarded hearts are tested, and a surprising revelation threatens already fragile relationships.

It’s a film with a warm, Nancy Meyers–like glow, but also one that leaves you with lingering questions and the sense that there’s more story to be told.
