Evil Dead Burn Review

Evil Dead Burn is the new film in this new long awaited franchise and the third film of the newly rebooted series that started in 2013. Premise: After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws. As one by one they transform into deadites, she comes to discover that the vows she took in life - survive even in death.

Let me start with the main character of this film: Alice has a very complicated relationship with her in-laws since the passing of her husband. It seems as if she hasn't been happy in years because her husband Will had been physically and emotionally abusive to her and because of that she has been faking her happiness for her in-laws. The only real person in the family that likes Alice is her brother-in-law Joseph. Domestic violence was a great message in this film, however, I feel as if it could have been portrayed better if the characters were more especially Alice. Other than the domestic violence that she experienced we don't know anything about what she does for a living or how she and Will feel in love in the first place.

Something that I wasn't expecting was this film to be as gory as the previous two installments. It's not just the gore that stands out about this film but it's also the score and the phenomenal Cinematography. The Cinematography in this film feels like a character and there are so many exceptional one-shot scenes in this film that I wasn't expecting. Speaking of things that I wasn't expecting about this film as the bada** action sequences.

Aside from the Blade films I can't remember the last time I enjoyed action sequences in a horror film as much as I enjoyed the gore. At times it feels like you're watching an MCU film but with more blood and violence.

As exceptional as this film is unfortunately after re-watching Evil Dead Rise I can't put it above that because this film suffers from undeveloped characters. The only character I connected to was the brother-in-law Joseph and he was more interesting than Alice was. Despite this film suffering from interesting protagonist I do think it's easily one of the best films of 2026.
