The Monkey Review

Yes, I am aware I am late to reviewing this but better late than never. The Monkey is based on a sort story by Steven King released in 1980 and is directed by Osgood Perkins who also directed/written 2024 film Longlegs. The discourse around this film has been very mixed. A lot of people hate it while some thought it was very fun. I’m so where down the middle.

Hal and Bill are twin brothers who find a antique monkey from their now deceased father in their closet in there home. Bill is a complete dick head and a lot of his dialogue is very cringe. Both brothers are polar opposites: Hal is an introvert and let's everyone wall over him, while Bill is just a terrible person. It's hard for me to care about either brothers because Hal is a loser and Bill is a terrible person.

This was a massive step down from Longlegs. Yes, the cinematography is great, however, some of the dialogue is cringe and the death scenes are so outlandish and cartoonish that it feels like I’m watching an episode of Looney Tunes. I don't have much to say about this film because it was just ridiculous from start to finish.
